Today I went for lunch in one traditional Japanese restaurant that serve authentic Japanese omakase (お任せ) — a Japanese dining style meaning “I’ll leave it up to you,” where customers entrust the chef to curate a personalized, multi-course meal, typically using the freshest, premium, and seasonal ingredients (Google).
I chose Gion Maruyama because by review it is claimed as consistently awarded 2 Michelin stars for many years.
The young chef serving my kaiseki set said it is a family owned restaurant that has run for almost 39 years; he is the 2nd generation & has been see ing for 9 years. Before I left the site, his father (the founder) greeted me with the typical Japanese salute (arigatou gozaimasu + body bowing deeply).
What an honor to have met both of them.
Gion Maruyama omakase should be part of a serene visit to Kyoto. Excellent food. Serene place.
