Sehari lima kali kubuka kitabku

Melantunkan ayat-ayat yang kadang terlalu asing

Mengetuk-ketuk hatiku

Menanyainya apakah aku mengenalnya.

Datangnya bagai tamu jauh

Yang singgah di rumah

Demi segelas air

Menanggulangi dahaga

Yang harus sirna sebelum perjalanan dilanjutkan.

Kadang enam kali

Di penghujung malam kala ketakutan diwakili oleh remang kudukku.

Kadang tujuh kali

Di saat yang tak kutahu apa sebabnya.

Kitabku seperti mulai menghafal

Bahwa sekali, dua kali, tiga kali, emapt kali, lima kali, enam kali, tujuh kali atau kali lain terlewati.

Aku tak lagi membacanya.

Maka kitabku membaca dirinya sendiri.

Lantunannya lebih indah

Daripada suaraku yang mengharapkan ramainya pujian.

Lantunan kitabku

Meramaikan jiwa sepiku

Yang menggapai-gapai dari sedotan lumpur hidup

Yang rakus menghisapku

Sampai dunia tak mengenalku lagi.

Kudengar lantunan kitabku

Menjatuhkan jemarinya
