Besekan Megengan, a sweet welcome by a Javanese to the Ramadlan month. There is one specialty included in megengan menu, “apem”. It is Javanese word adopted from the Arabic “afwun” that means apologising, apology, apologised. Before Ramadlan, muslim will apologise to each other so that their fasting will be more peaceful, focusing on contemplating what is without too much regret. It helps to apologise one’s self when one has apologised to those one has done wrong. Seems cheap but what I experience has shown me that when I don’t forgive others, I can’t live peacefully.
