And it doesn’t matter as truth might have millions of layers depending on number of thoughts dissecting their stories.

Make Something Wonderful (What He Said vs Me)

This book is special to me as it is about someone that I consider one of outstanding human beings; and it is free of charge given to me.

Physically this book fascinates me like other books as all writers want to wrap their writing in pretty covers. I love books, good books and when I finished reading this particular book, there was such feeling described as “accepting who I am and all what have built me and what I can materialize from my dreams through what I can do”.

Well, talking about the book physical. I like books with good covers although I don’t judge books by their covers. A picture of the young Steve Jobs pasted on a grey background shows a clean cover – simple clean design. The pictures in the book are all with black background that make all of them focused as a center of attention of the page. The rest of the touched paper is all good to me.

This review is not really about the content of the book itself so you might find it irrelevant. Yet I believe it gives people perspective. So, don’t be either disappointed or helpless.

The review is about what I can relate between what Steve Jobs said with what I perceive or feel about things in life or simply about life.

Undeniably many of the statements made by Steve Jobs represent what I’ve faced in life. Although what Steve Jobs said were not really about what have happened in my life, I freely relate those with my perception or assumption but never about conclusion. Although of course my life scale is none compared to his, I happily take a ruler and measure mine next to his; we’re both human beings anyways.

If people consider me self-centred for making the review about myself, I accept it wholeheartedly.

Let’s get the ball rolling.

Disclaimer: I will not put the pages on which the statements are located; you can read the online version of the book in below link and find them anywhere.

Make Something Wonderful

What he said and my hobby reading

When I was going to school, I had a few great teachers and a lot of mediocre teachers. And the thing that probably kept me out of jail was the books. I could go and read what Aristotle or Plato wrote without an intermediary in the way. And a book was a phenomenal thing. It got right from the source to the destination without anything in the middle.

What he said and my spiritual life

“I’m stupefied to sort of summarize [my trip to India]. Anyone would have a hard time summarizing a meaningful experience of their life in a page. I mean, if I was William Faulkner, I might be able to do it for you, but I’m not.”

What he said and my friendship with my best friends

We’re sort of like two planets in our own orbits that every so often intersect each other. There’s a bond there that will last as long as we both live.

What he said and what I appreciate in true leaders

I want to commend everyone for their efforts throughout this difficult time. As always, I am very proud of this team.

What he said and how I see other human beings

In most cases, strengths and weaknesses are two sides of the same coin. A strength in one situation is a weakness in another, yet often the person can’t switch gears. It’s a very subtle thing to talk about strengths and weaknesses because almost always they’re the same thing.

His mother loves him.

And that’s a really wonderful thing.

I love and admire my species, living and dead, and am totally dependent on them for my life and well being.

What he said and my job

But here’s the key thing: let’s say I could move a hundred times faster than anyone in here. In the blink of your eye, I could run out there, grab a bouquet of fresh spring flowers, run back in here, and snap my fingers. You would all think I was a magician. And yet I would basically be doing a series of really simple instructions: running out there, grabbing some flowers, running back, snapping my fingers. But I could just do them so fast that you would think that there was something magical going on.

What he said and my own self

We started with nothing. So whenever you start with nothing, you can always shoot for the moon. You have nothing to lose.

You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

What he said and how I motivate myself

It’s been an amazing journey so far, yet we have barely begun.

What he said and the reason why I want to build my base home

Deciding what building to build was really hard. When you are in rented buildings, it is easy because they don’t define who you are—they define who the landlord is! But when you decide to design your own building, you have to ask the question, “Who are we?” Because you want to capture some of the soul of the company in the building and reflect who we are.

What he said and how I sense this very life with 6 senses

“Speech at Palo Alto High School”….

Think of your life as a rainbow arcing across the horizon of this world. You appear, have a chance to blaze in the sky, then you disappear.

The two endpoints of everyone’s rainbow are birth and death. We all experience both completely alone. And yet, most people of your age have not thought about these events very much, much less even seen them in others. How many of you have seen the birth of another human? It is a miracle. And how many of you have witnessed the death of a human? It is a mystery beyond our comprehension. No human alive knows what happens to “us” upon or after our death. Some believe this, others that, but no one really knows at all. Again, most people of your age have not thought about these events very much, and it’s as if we shelter you from them, afraid that the thought of mortality will somehow wound you. For me it’s the opposite: to know my arc will fall makes me want to blaze while I am in the sky. Not for others, but for myself, for the trail I know I am leaving.

Now, as you live your arc across the sky, you want to have as few regrets as possible. Remember, regrets are different from mistakes. Mistakes are those things that you did and wish you could do over again. In some you were a fool (usually concerning women). In others you were scared. In others you hurt someone else. Some mistakes are deep, others not. But if your intent was pure, they are almost always enriching in some way. So mistakes are things that you did and wish you could do over again.

Regrets are most often things you didn’t do, and wish you did. I still regret not kissing Nancy Kinniman in high school. Who knows what might have happened? Maybe she regrets it too …

Third, we are all going to die. You are going to die…. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And I wish that for you.

You can’t plan to meet the people who will change your life. It just happens. Maybe its random, maybe its fate. Either way, you can’t plan for it. But you want to recognize it when it happens, and have the courage and clarity of mind to grab onto it.

And if you can remember that your life is a story in the making, it will help you make those important decisions. When you have to decide between taking the prestigious job that pays well, or the offbeat job with no future that makes your heart sing, just imagine yourself looking back on your life in 50 years and you’ll know what path is yours. You will give yourself the right advice. You will intuitively know if something is part of your story or not.

I’m 50 years old now, and my story is entering its third act. I can tell you with certainty that those times when I have followed my gut, heart and intuition …

Again, you can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well-worn path. And that will make all the difference.

Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact—and that is: everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you….

And you can change it.
You can influence it.
You can build your own things that other people can use.
….
Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.

Thank you.

————————————-

To me personally what he said in this book are those lessons learnt by him through his life and at the same time a bunch of lessons to be learnt by the readers. Some specific information can be extracted to be insight then to be wisdom through reflection. Immediate wise words can be absorbed as life supplies to travel this life further.

Truly an enlightening compilation about someone that might have been misunderstood by many yet at the same time admired for what he had done to most.

Thank you, Steve. You are in my pray. Always.

Salaam.

Mori Tadamasa — the owner of Tsuyama Castle

not taking high IQ to learn that many if not all the daimyos and above were human beings thirsty of power

human beings are both individual and social, original and political, psychological and cultural, good and evil; let life be fair at the right time and the right place to mei just want to be humane and nothing else 😊 avoiding people with intrigues is paramount even if they are the ones that i love the most 😘

life of non aristocratic is more interesting to me where politic is just about how to stay in self control with some occasional sparks of witty explosions and to gracefully stabilise the society ♥️

rebuilt part of Tsuyama Castle’s Bitchu Yagura (viewed from not so nice a point) — you don’t have to look pretty or grand all the time, dear Castle 😍

when i saw the high stone walls of this castle, i could imagine how it was strongly fortified

just with 6 ruins of hundreds of castles in Japan I visited (Asahi-san has visited 75 and counting) and it is already clear to me what kind of culture this nation was built upon and what type of aristocratic people started the build — all nations are blessed in different ways

this is how beautiful Tsuyama Castle scenery was in one sakura season (foto borrowed from tsuyama.kokosil.net) — i’m blessed enough to see it in Jun ♥️

thank you, Tsuyama 🙏🏼

Note: Castle is open from 8:40am to 7pm Japan time

this couple made my day with their food in the shop opening for more than 20 years and how they cooked together

I asked my two Japanese friends (who used to be my colleagues in a company back in 2008, whom I meet in my current visit) if they want to be married and grow old together like the couple.

Yakisoba-san (a lady): I never want to. Plus I don’t want to end up taking care of the man marrying me plus to change my family name into his. Men don’t do household chores. And I travel extensively so I might not be so much wanted by most men here

Asahi-san (a gent): Maybe no. I don’t want to end up not taken care of well like how i am taken care of by my mother now plus life will become more expensive with marriage. I don’t do household chores and more and more difficult to find a woman who is willing to stay home to home work

Me: (jaw dropped) Oh, goodness! I’ve been so positive about marriage and men then. I always think of marrying a man who is willing to take care of me and whom I can take care of. Ah…. Seems blurry now.

3 of us: (continued discussing how different our family upbringing and culture has been, a lot of laugh about the past too)

Note: their names are not Yakisoba and Asahi but today those were the things among other they ordered for dinner. 😊

Green and Greener

It’s green grass back home,
Her grass looks greener, sweeter
Though. Is it the sun?

——

There is a proverb in Indonesian “rumput tetangga selalu kelihatan lebih hijau“ that literally means neighbours’ grass always looks greener. And yes, that’s always what I feel in many countries outside Indonesia and Singapore yet at the same time I miss to be home in either Indonesia or Singapore where sun is both indulging and heating.

I am truly “green-eyed” some time. And I so much miss home.

Messy Imperfect

For hundreds of times
I say
It doesn’t matter for
The unanswered prayers,
The unrequited love,
The abandoned dreams,
The disrespect,
The mistreatment—
They are stations
Where I transit for a while
Just a while
Among all kind, beautiful stations of
Answered prayers,
Unconditional love,
Friendly respect,
Sweet treatment
With which I believe
This journey deserves meaning
Of which I choose my battles.

I’ve chosen
You
And no other.

I love my life as it is with its messiness and imperfection. Thank you!

A Head In A Table

This head, Beloved
Is full of colours
That suck all memories
To an abandoned landfill
Where poems dance in joy
Recycling precious moments
Into glowing beads
Jingling around a neck,
Chuckling on millions of love wishes
That scatter on a table.

——

yeah! this is one busiest corner of my head everyday! messy yet full of love 💕😀

Broken Hearted

How would I not
Be broken hearted?
You ignored me.

You celebrated the love.
You showed off engagement.
You broke my heart in any possible ways.

Universe does conspire.

I am now dancing,
Your existence to me is untrue.
I never lose you.

note: this poem was composed by me as a response to an AI’s poem claimed beautiful by one colleague 😄

My conversation with two colleagues at lunch break yesterday

C1: I used AI to write a poem for my mother on her birthday recently.

Me: A poem by AI?

C1: Yes and it is beautiful and everyone in my family likes it a lot.

Me: You requested a poem from AI?

C1: Yes!

Me: Oh sad. I was not noticed. Why didn’t you ask me to do it for you?

C2: Ya, she is a poet outside her job. You never know?

C1: No….

Me and C2: (could not stop laughing at me beaten by AI)

not sure if it is AI’s work but it is pretty, just downloaded it from the Internet — i was so broken hearted by the AI poet yesterday, not anymore 😛

There’s wind kissing your scent.
There’s moon drawing your silhouette.

AI

I had a conversation about AI and its possible role in the doomsday of the human being life on this Mother Earth.

F1: I am not afraid as I like it or not the earth is going to be destroyed by whomever as per many scenarios written in traditional beliefs, religious scripts and even scientific estimate. If not destroyed by external power, it must have expiry date — it will be “self” destroyed.

F2: I am worried. This inorganic thing is a threat to us. We need to limit ourselves from the AI use.

F3: I don’t care but I think I also care.

F4: I am angry with those ambitious intelligent human beings who keep expanding the ability of AI. Don’t they think about the negative impacts both to the confusion of other human beings and the future of earth life.

F1: If they keep adding to the intelligence to the AI then the AI will develop. I don’t know how to stop this. I am just a small dot in a vast black block. So if it develops, may be it. I will just enjoy my life.

F2: What we can analyse should be the basis of our decision. Yes, we are not VIP on earth but all human beings are VIP in their own life who should not just let others destroy their life without fighting back. Fight back!

F3: How?

F4: At least you should know who is AI who is not.

F1: You mean AI can converse?

F2: Yes of course! They are another level of robot! They are a developing inorganic that is growing with the growth of the creators. It is like human being is becoming a god creating the next level of human being based on human being’s image.

F3: Are you exaggerating?

F4: I AM NOT!

F1: Oh my Lord! This is exactly what God did — creating us with His image.

F2: Yes, and God must be crazy because H is now showing His massively expansive power that has made human beings a god creating another god that creating AI that might become the next god.

F3: What?

F4: Yes! AI will go to where human beings have not experienced. AI is a collective data and information from dead and living human beings. Look how massive the combination of decision and action AI can make to expand the life.

F1: Good God! Worse is AI doesn’t have ethic.

F2: That’s what is needed. Is it possible to have AI that bears ethic as an ingrained value; or at least implanted.

F3: It depends on the creators.

F4: You know what Harari said? AI can create a new religion!

F1: Scarry, friends. let’s now talk about this.

F2: We have to talk about this. And we have to talk about this to the next generation.

F3: Stop it. You don’t have child.

F4: I have nephews and nieces! I can talk to them.

F4: But they will not listen to you. If they don’t even listen to their parents, how will they listen to others?

F1: Maybe the parents are not as good. The teachers are not either. The aunts might be better like us.

F2: My students listen more to what people in TikTok than to me. Sad!

F3: My kid consults to ChatGPT instead of reading books. She said the summary is unbelievably accurate and helps her write papers in school.

F4: ChatGPT is a baby AI. What AI can possibly exist for other fields? Finance. Military. Medicine. Agriculture. Education. And so on. And so forth. Imagine in military field — AI makes war. AI activates all the nukes on earth. Human beings are grouped based on AI categorisation. Those who don’t follow AI will be stranded in desolated area. AI rules, human beings are enslaved. Imagine science that is believed to make life more advanced and easy with no ethic — bad AI.

F1: Our children need to know about what is ethical and what is not then. AI depends on the good will of the creators.

F2: Hey! Ethic might be misunderstood as religion and young kids are not interested to what smells like religion.

F3: What smells religion is religion.

F4: Not necessarily. What smells rose is not always rose.

F1: Hey! What if AI really is in the process of making a new religion that will make our children think differently from us?

F2: Why are you so afraid of others thinking differently from you?

F3:  It is ok if you have different way of thinking than me; but not my children!

F4: Ah! We are so caught up by AI. It is because of you!

F1: Let’s just stop. Just don’t forget that AI doesn’t need rest; it might be a baby now, it will grow with your kids even exponentially faster and more sophisticated. If creators are greedy, the AI will really be unleashed monsters and eat the creators….

F2: Stop! Let the smart ones take care of this.

F3: The Government should protect us from AI spreading with very robust law.

F4: No one will protect us. We have to protect ourselves.

F1: If we don’t even know which is AI and which is not, that is very dangerous.

F2: Start from the definition of intelligent.

F3: Come on…. Let’s just talk about something else.

F4: Harari said AI is alive.

F1, F2, F3: Stop!!!

The Poem

My poem for you
Is not in the words.
My poem for you
Sits on the bed of this heart.
The words that you recite
Is what language can say
About what is still,
Admiring you from a secret place
That keeps everything
And keeps flowing.
